Do I have relationships or transactionships? Answer the following: What do the people on your team do outside of work? What are their hobbies? Do they have second jobs? How important is their family life? Do they get enough time with their family? Are they going to school at night? Would they if they could figure out how? What type of work is most rewarding to them? What challenges are they facing? What challenges have they overcome? If money weren’t an issue what work would they do? How many kids do they have? How old are the kids? Where are they from? What principles do they believe in? What are their strengths? How did they choose their careers?
If you can’t answer many of these questions, you may be in a transactionship. Every time people see you, they know you want something. “Urrghh… what does she want now?” runs through their minds.
People don’t quit companies, they quit managers. When leaders cultivate loyalty within their people, those people fight loyally to attract and keep customers. They look for ways to add value … without even thinking about it.
